Pusat Standard dan Akreditasi Brunei Darussalam (PSABD), Ministry of Finance and Economy in collaboration with the Department of Standard Malaysia (DSM), Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry of Malaysia (MITI) successfully concluded a workshop on ISO/IEC 17025:2017 – General Requirements for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories from 5th to 7th November 2024 at The Centrepoint Hotel, Bandar Seri Begawan.
The workshop was held in conjunction with the World Accreditation Day 2024 and as part of the Centre’s efforts to promote a quality culture to local testing and calibration laboratories by implementing a laboratory quality management system, mainly the ISO/IEC 17025:2017. The World Accreditation Day, celebrated every 6th June is a global initiative established by the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) to promote the value of accreditation. This year’s theme, “Accreditation: Empowering Tomorrow and Shaping the Future”, highlights accreditation’s role in shaping technological innovation, digital transformation, and sustainable development.
Present to officiate the workshop was Yang Mulia Dk Hjh Nadiah Annasyitah binti Pg DP Haji Abu Bakar, Acting Director of the PSABD, Ministry of Finance and Economy. In her opening speech, Yang Mulia Dk Hjh Nadiah emphasized the importance of this workshop in strengthening the understanding of the ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standard, which is crucial to ensure laboratories operate competently. Accreditation to the standard signifies a laboratory’s strong commitment to technical competence and dedication to show and deliver accurate and reliable results to clients and stakeholders.
Yang Mulia Awang Wan Rukiman Wan Mamat, Director of Accreditation, DSM, facilitated the workshop as the expert trainer. He provided a comprehensive understanding of PBD ISO/IEC 17025:2017 with detailed emphasis on each clause of the standard. Additionally, this workshop also discusses on the practical aspects such as non-conformity, document control, internal audits, risk-based thinking, measurement uncertainty, management review and continuous improvements which will help enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the lab’s operation.
The three (3) days workshop was attended by thirty (30) participants, comprising representatives from conformity assessment bodies (CAB) registered with BDSAC, which included government and private agencies and higher education institutions. The workshop concluded with the presentation of certificates to the participants.
PSABD remains committed to promoting a culture of quality and excellence within the local testing and calibration laboratory community. By organizing such workshops, PSABD aims to empower laboratories to achieve and maintain the highest standards of technical competence.
